Trust me when I say that no budding singer/dancer/actor/icon should be without one. I just shaved my arsehole and it looks NOTHING like this now. Nor did it before, mind.

‘10,000 NIGHTS (OF THUNDER)’—ALPHABEAT [COPENHAGEN]
Perhaps the name of the their label will give you some indication of where this bubbly 6 piece call home. Yep, these Danish zoomsters are the latest Scandinavian export to make it big in the UK (and beyond) chart scene. Released from their self-titled album as a follow up to their spangly hit ‘Fascination’ is the campest lil’ ole pop tune you’ll get your teeth into this week. With vocals shared between the boy and girl lead singers, ’10,000 nights’ is like the fizziest soda pop to ever pass your lips. It’s tooth-rottingly sweet but gives you such a rush there’s no stopping the guzzle. Check out the house remixes by Bimbo Jones, Mac Smack and the Plimsouls for a more club-focussed hit. Be sure to YouTube the zany video and fall in lurve. 4.5
THE BOWERY—FIREKITES [SPUNK]
If I wasn’t sitting at home in front of the fire in the early winter austereness of suburban Melbourne, by simply closing my eyes and listening to these acoustic oriented tunes I could be in places far away, like a smoky bar in central Paris, a sidewalk cafe in San Francisco or an summer afternoon concert in Gramercy Park. Such is the melodic peace the aural ambience of this band of scruffy Newcastle musicians.
The Firekites are a compile band of dudes from The Herd, Pivot and The Instant. As a new being, they’ve discovered the urban folk grooves much beloved of musos hung up on pub rock. Acciordiungly, The Bowery is a gentle journey through the mellow side of life.
Oh, and the packaging ain’t half bad either; matte and staid on the outside versus bright and shiny on the inside. A bit like the old coffee house they recorded this album in.
‘BREATHE’—KAZ JAMES FT. STU STONE [SONY BMG]
As one half of the Bodyrockers (remember ‘I like the way you move’), Kaz James is an ex-Melbourne boy who is now a semi-superstar (grade C) residing in London. This first major solo effort enlists the help of cute Cali white-rapper Stu Stone to flesh out a new twosome and give this already major Aussie club hit some heftier balls. Sounding like a rock meets electro dance mash-up, ‘Breathe’ is a reminder that us lonesome Aussies still continue to rule the international club circuit with our cutting edge, take-no-prisoners edge and our disparaging go-fuck-yourself attitude. It what makes us great and what makes us special. You may have noticed the sharp visuals of the Fred Schepisi video as much as you have the dirty-assed mixes from Thomas Gold, Nick Galea and Jason Herd. 3.5
THE VERY BEST OF—NEIL SEDAKA [UMA]
From the sublime to the ridiculous, it takes all sorts to make up the gay world and for that we are glad. For the unknowing (and the unconverted) Neil Sedaka is a legendary singer/songwriter of the 60s and the 70s who created feelgood pop hits for himself, but also for many others (think Burt Bacharach with frosting). Although you may scratch your head in dismay, I bet the songs ‘Love will keep us together’, ‘Breaking up is hard to do’, ‘Happy birthday sweet sixteen’, ‘Oh Carol’ and ‘Amarillo’ would ring distant bells lodged deep in your pop subconscious at weddings, parties and the daggiest Bar Mitzvahs.
All appear here on this double compilation (pieced together by the good man himself), along with a selection of brand new tracks. The show goes on is one for the retro Sedaka connoisseur. 2.5
COME OUT SWINGING—VARIOUS [SONY BMG]
And now I piqued the interest of the old school nerds, how about a twin pack of classic swing tunes by a variety of stars and their corresponding starlettes? From original versions of schwing anthems like Mack the knife’ (Louie Armstrong), ‘Papa loves mambo’ (Perry Como), ‘Night and day’ (Dionne Warwick), ‘All of me’ (Sarah Vaughan) and ‘Lullaby of Broadway’ (Doris Day) to contemporary versions by current stars, the longevity of the swing sound is explored and celebrated.
But it’s the updates that give the listener fresh joy including Jamie Cullum on ‘…kick out of you’, Alison Moyet’s beautiful ‘That ole devil called love’, Eva Cassidy’s ‘cheek to cheek’, Vince Jones with his jazzy ‘Secret Love’ and Norah Jones selling it on ‘The nearness of you’. However by balloon bursts with Judy G on ‘Come rain come shine’. 3

New York City is my favourite place in the whole world. I love the enormity, the style, the energy and the gay men of the city. It's just sooooo cool I could squeal. My first visit was way back in 1993 in the pre-Guilliani days when the streets were dangerous and the clubs really sleazy. There were drugs drugs DRUGS DRUGS everywhere and the highlight of my visit was a long (12 hour) bender on the dancefloor at the Sound Factory, although Jackie 60 and Limelight were pretty memorable too.
Then in 2005 I visited again and expecting the worst, I was pleasantly surprised that even though a mop had been taken to the streets, the same underground vibe had survived and NYC's heart was still pumping. A new generation of clubs had risen to the forefront and were smaller but no less fun. I loved them all.
Including the Lower East Side's The Cock, that features heavily in this tongue-in-chic pop song. It's cheap and tacky and norty and out for a quick faggy laugh, but that's why I enjoyed these 3 minutes so. That and the game of 'Spot the club identity'! Can you see Michael Musto, Linda Simpson, Tom Dolby & Drew Frist, Lee Savage, Manhattan Edit Workshop, Jesse Finley Reed, David Sparks, and Christiania Vodka?

Please enjoy this sweet romantic ballad with a decidedly queer bent from cuddly bear man, Ron Morris. I'd be his boyfriend if he sang like this to me! Awwwwwwww.

They say good things come in small packages, and trust me, I'm a FIRM believer of what they say. Lil' Bow Wow is now a grown up doggy and woof, what a cuddly canine creature he has become.
I wonder if he barks like man's best friend when he's on all fours in front of his master?

OMG! Did you catch Battlestar Galactica this week? What a dang fine episode it was, possibly one of the best ever, I reckon. So many teasers, so few answers. And what a climax! I nearly died from the suspense, and then the shock. JUMMMMP! Now what? Guess we'll have to wait until the week after next for that!

It might be Sunday night, but I'm still gonna put on my leg warmers, ra-ra skirt and stretchy top for some mid-80s body rocking! They sure did make great funk back then. TURN IT UP!

Those rascally fellas at Taschen have compiled a new book that is bound to get tongues wagging (and heads bobbing). It's the first edition to my wishLIST files and a book I would love to "read". It's the real Bible!
Here's a tantalising snippet of what monsters lurk within.

And lastly, goodness me!
